True Blue - *Unofficial* (***Version 4!***)

Blue Interview Webcast - Nov. 6th 2001
Tell us about the video to 'If you come back'?
Duncan: In a nutshell, the story line is that we've all been dumped by girlfriends and we're all really upset. I'm in a car, driving and gutted. Simon and Lee are walking down the street, gutted... Ant is in a café really upset...and so we all decide to go and meet up in a warehouse, as you do, and sing our hearts out. That's the basic gist of it.
Susie asks: 'How long have you been together?
Simon: We've been together about two years, but we were signed last September.
And how has your friendship progressed in that time?
Simon: It hasn't progressed because we were all friends anyway.
Duncan: Yeah, we're all good mates anyway.
Dee asks Blue: What do you do to keep yourself busy and amused on tours and long flights?
Antony: We've just got ourselves some new laptops and DVD players, which we've just managed to work!
Simon: Writing as well, writing songs and stuff.
Duncan: Do you know what I do on flights? Sleep! As soon as we're on that flight, before it's even taken off I'm there asleep, head on pillow.
Simon: Along with Johnny our tour manager
Lee: I always end up winding someone up on a flight... I don't know what it is they just see me and hate me!
Rachel asks Blue: Which of your songs is your favourite?
Duncan: That's difficult, that one.
Antony: Yeah, because we're so proud of it.
Duncan: We love them all.
Simon: 'All Rise' was one of our favourites. On the album there's a track called 'Long time' that's an absolute stonker. It's a ballad, and I'm not even a ballad person, I like up-tempo tracks.
Any specific others?
Antony: I like a track called 'Distentation' which we co wrote in Sheffield with a guy called Elliot Kennedy who has worked with the Spice Girls, Bryan Adams, Take That... we were privileged to work with him. It's a very uplifting, up beat, soul track. It's wicked.
Vicky asks: If you weren't in a band, what would you be doing now?
Antony: I'd probably be acting because I was acting before. I'd done stuff like Grange Hill and the Bill, I was always the one running away from PC Garfield or whoever... I'd like to go back into acting in years to come... As Beppe's long lost brother in EastEnders or something!
Simon: I'd probably be stacking milk or something! I'd like to think that I'd be playing football but I doubt I'd be doing anything like that because I've been naughty... getting injured and stuff. Always wear your shin pads when playing whether it's training or not! Sorry, I'm a bit bitter.
Lee: I'd probably be up on the roofs. Not robbing or anything, just working.I don't know, I don't know. Probably an astronaut or something.
Duncan:Like Anthony I'm really into acting. I did a lot of theatre before. I'd like to be in the West End.
Mya asks: Lee, we've all noticed the necklace you wear, does it have any special meaning?
Lee: It's actually my mums. She bought it and said, 'that's for you', and I was like that's a woman's so you have it... and then about six months later I liked it, and I like it now and that's why I wear it.
Does it feel like a bit of a mascot now?
Lee: Well I've worn it in every single one of the videos
Antony: I've got a thumb ring which I've had on for about three years now... it won't come off!
Duncan: We've all got an article of jewellery that we're sentimental about... Simon's got a bracelet...
Simon: It was my mums and my Granddads, it's silver and it has to be on show.
Duncan: I've got a necklace, it's a gold one with a crucifix on it that my grand parents bought me before they died, and I had it blessed by the priest.
Orla asks: What in your opinion makes Blue different to other bands?
Lee: I don't know, what does make us different to other bands?
Antony: The music that we do.
Simon: What we're doing at the moment is different, nobody is doing what we are doing. Another Level were close to what we're doing, and Damage too... We're not here to say we are any different to anybody, because we are a boy band, but we're doing a different sort of music.
Lee's future wife asks: Lee, what is the thing you have with garlic? I read in a recent issue of Sugar that you really like girls who eat garlic and would even marry one? Is this true because I really like Garlic so will you marry me?
Lee: Well the thing is, it doesn't matter. Girls are always conscious about what they eat in case they pen and ink, and then they go up to a bloke and kiss them and they're breath's minging! It comes out in your pores, not your breath... But I wouldn't marry a girl who didn't eat garlic!
And of course Garlic is good for you...
Lee: It cleans your blood.
Simon: It stinks man!
Do you consciously think about what you eat?
Simon:We don't get time to think about what we eat!
Duncan: We live on sandwiches from Petrol stations! Bacon flavoured crisps, and barbecue flavour hula hoops...
Carly asks: When is the Blue album coming out?
Simon: 26th November. It's called Blue, All Rise
Emma asks: What types of girls do you like and how much older, or younger, do you like them to be?
Antony: That's a good question, I don't mind, I don't care as long as they are a nice person.
Simon: It doesn't matter.
Antony: I don't want someone too young though.
Lee: Over the age is OK.
Simon: We don't want to start digging holes for ourselves! D: We're not fussy.
Lee:Well, as long as they eat garlic!
What do you do in your free time
Duncan: Sleep.
Lee: Whatever I feel like at the time really... either go for a walk or swim.
Hannah asks Blue: You have been compared to Another Level, how do you feel about this?
Simon: That's a compliment. That's the way we see it. They were one of the first boy bands in England to be doing RnB music. We're quite friendly with the guy's as well, we know Dane. I'm not going to say a bad word because I heard he knocked out Mark Morrison!
What about American bands, are there any that you look up to?
Antony: Backstreet Boys. I really respect them, they are wicked. They have been around for six, seven years and are still going. Every album and every single they release is brilliant.
Is that how you see yourselves progressing, long term, out for the long haul?
Antony: Fingers crossed. We want our music to live on. Long after we are gone too.
Stephanie asks: Do any of the band members play musical instruments? And if so, who?
Duncan: I do, I play the piano and guitar. My granddad was a music teacher and so I was brought up with a musical background.
Anyone else?
Lee: I play the pots and pans!
Duncan:Ant plays the triangle on one of the tracks.
Antony: I was always the kid at school who was quite naughty, I would be stuck at the back of the class playing the triangle. Everyone else would be playing the keyboard or recorder and I'd be in the corner going 'ting, ting'.
Kim asks: If you were animals, what would you be?
Duncan: I'd be a lion
Antony: I'd be a cuddly cute bear
Simon: I'd be a panther or an eagle
Lee: I'd probably be a fish, because I'd like to travel in the water.
Do any of you have annoying habits?
Lee: I've got loads of annoying habits. What annoying habit's have I got lads?
All: Burps and farts.
Duncan: Bites his toenails.
Lee: It's normal stuff though, nothing too bad.
Antony: I bite my nails.
Jasmine asks: What do you guys feel when you go on stage for the first time in front of so many fans?
Lee: We love it, when we're on stage we just love performing. We like seeing our fans, it's nice to see new and old faces. We have a connection on stage. We only have to look at each other to know what joke we're going to play or something!
Simon: I prefer to do intimate gigs where you can get really close to your fans.
Lee: We always say can't we get into the crowd because that's what it's all about. We'd love to sing and rap with them. It's a shame to have to distance yourself, we want to be in there with them.
Claire asks Blue: What do you wear in bed?
Simon: I'm commando, but it's winter so maybe boxer shorts but otherwise commando.
Lee: Just my boxers.
Blue Angel asks Blue: Were any of the tracks on the album written with a special person in mind?
Duncan: There is a track on the album called 'Long time' and the guy who wrote the track had written it about someone he lost and won't see again for a long time. It's got a lot of meaning. So when we sing that song we can put a lot of feeling into it. It's a beautiful song.
Lee: If you listen to the words, it's very deep which is why we like performing it. It's an amazing track.
What do you like best, performing on TV or performing live?
All: Performing live.
Lee: Definitely performing live. When you perform on TV you have people coming up to you all the time, and you have to re-do bits again and again. When you're actually live and on stage it's fun, less regimental.
Claire asks: If you could interview anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
Antony: George Michael. Quite simply I'd love to do a duet with him. With the other boys as well though, I'd be too scared on my own.
What song would you like to do?
Antony: Careless Whisper. It's my all time favourite.
Lee: I'd interview Gandhi, I can't speak his language but I think he'd have some interesting views on life.
Duncan: I'd like to interview Nostre Damus, the geezer who predicts everything.
Simon: I'm a martial arts freak, so probably Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee.
Lee: Or I'd interview Marilyn Monroe.
Dawn asks: Would you ever date a fan?
Antony: Never say never.
Simon: If we say no we'd never date a fan, we could then meet someone who is a fan of the music, so you can't say no.
Lee: It depends. But generally we like our fans, we like having a laugh with them, we always go out of our way to be as nice as possible to them. If they've been waiting hours to see us we'll always take five minutes to stop and say hello, even if it means we end up five or ten minutes late.
Philippa asks Blue: If you could go out with any pop star or actress, who would it be and why?
Simon: I can think of about ten!
Duncan: Natalie Imbruglia. She's beautiful.
Antony: I'm not fussy, whether they're famous or not. But if I had to pick one, it would be Rachel from S Club.
Simon: Angelina Jolie.
Lee: I don't know because I can't just look at someone and think they're really pretty, I have to chat to them first before I ask them. I'm not really one of those guy's who can just look at some one and fall in love with them.
Simon: Lee, I know who you'd like to go out with.... Olivia Newton John.
Lee: Oh yeah, Olivia Newton John back in the day with 'You're the one that I want', she was bad.
What's your favourite car?
Duncan: The car I got to drive in the video, I don't know what it was but I wanted it.
Lee: Aston Martin
Simon: Porsche
Antony: Porsche.
Are you happy with your first award?
All: Yeah.
Simon: Its brilliant.
Antony: Ecstatic, we didn't know, it's just amazing.
Lee: It's a big achievement.
Simon: It assures us that we're on the right path, doing something right.
How much money would it take for you to pose naked for a magazine?
Lee: Not that much! I did it for eighty quid once! I ran around school naked. My pockets were empty and eighty quid is a lot of money when you haven't got any. Well, I wasn't totally naked.
What was your favourite subject at school?
Antony: Drama
Lee: Hometime!
Leanne asks: Were you popular at school?
Duncan: Yes
Simon: Yes
Lee: Yeah. I was popular with teachers!
Antony: There was a gang of four of us and we used to cause havoc at school. Whipping girl's skirts up and stuff. Once at a school disco we put mirrors on our shoes.
Do you have any dodgy tattoos. If so what and where?
All: No
Lee: I pierced my own ear once. I wanted another hole done and my mum wouldn't let me so I got a needle and stuck it through my ear. It was only because she said I couldn't have it done though. I regretted it afterwards because it sort of went side ways.
Suzanne asks: Have you got a calendar coming out and are you touring next year?
Simon: There is a calendar out now, so go and buy it, and we're doing the Smash Hits tour in December.
Jody asks: What were your inspirations when growing up?
Antony: My mum and dad.
Lee: Definitely
Simon: I can say I've got musical influences but my main influence has been my mum and dad.
Lee: My mum pushed me forwards, when I was down she used to give me a tape and say go on, go and sing.
Ashley asks: Who pulls the most girls in the group?
Simon: That's obvious, Lee.
Lee: Who me?
Simon: He's always pulling them.
Lee: I'm always chasing them, I'm blatant.
Simon: But we all pull.
OK then, I'd just like to say a massive thanks.
All: Thanks, cheers.
